Workshops

Foundation
Foundation workshops will explore hand building techniques and decoration. All work produced will be fired and there will be an informal display. The two hour workshops will run either in the afternoon, evening or at weekends.

Advanced
Advanced workshops where you are encouraged to develop and expand the pottery skills already acquired.

Example of Pottery workshops

Two hour workshops.
£19.00 per workshop including materials

3.00noon - 5.00pm Saturday
2.30pm – 4.30pm weekdays
6.30pm – 8.30pm Tuesday and Thursday evenings

Session one
How to prepare the clay.
Pinch pots. – Student will follow the demonstration and all will create the same piece

Session Four
Working with press moulds.
Students will be asked to prepare a piece of work for the following week using one of the techniques already demonstrated.

Session seven
Finishing all work
Discussion - Packing a kiln

Week gap for work to dry out ready for biscuit firing plus firing

Session two
Coil pots. – Student will follow the demonstration and all will create the same piece
Plus decoration techniques

Session five
Create an original piece using any of the techniques shown.
Students will be asked to prepare a piece of work for the following week using a combination of the techniques already demonstrated.

Session eight
Decoration of all work - oxides
Packing a kiln

Session three
Slab pots. – Student will follow the demonstration and all will create the same piece
Plus decoration (coloured slips)

Session six
Create a piece using a combination of techniques shown.
Continue working on any unfinished pieces

Exhibition
Display of work. - Invite guests
Meet other pottery students.

Taster Sessions

Always wanted to try the potters wheel? What to have a go before you commit to weekly workshops? Or want to give that extra special gift?

Book a two hour pottery taster session on either a Wednesday or Saturday morning and have a go. Cost of the taster session is £48.00 for the two hour workshop and is for up to two people. Gift vouchers are available

SCULPTURAL CERAMICS 

Workshops exploring sculptural ceramics, the qualities of clay and creating colour using oxides.

The workshop covers the basic hand building techniques, progressing onto producing sculptural pieces. Please contact the Rathbone Studio if you would like to participate on the workshop. Places are limited.
